Across Africa, the public sector is often viewed through the lens of a “branding crisis”-labeled as unproductive and rigid. While these stereotypes persist, they overlook a silent, data-driven revolution currently taking place in hashtag#Cameroon.
As the Communicator-in-chief of the Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development (hashtag#MINDDEVEL), I am witnessing this shift firsthand. We recently concluded our 2026 Goal Setting Workshop in Abong-Mbang, and the takeaway was clear: The public sector is successfully importing the “Private Sector DNA” to drive national development.

Applying Corporate Rigor to Public Governance
During four intense days (Feb 8-11), we operated less like a traditional ministry and more like a high-growth enterprise, focusing on three strategic pillars:
1) The Strategic Post-Mortem
We didn’t just “review” 2025; we conducted a deep-dive into the root causes of our performance gaps. We identified success stories not as luck, but as repeatable frameworks for 2026.
2) Personal Commitment and Performance Contracts
We moved from vague objectives to measurable results. In 2026, our roadmap is defined by accountability and “visionary precision”. I didn’t just witness this shift. I actually signed into it. I had the honor of personally signing a Performance Contract with the Minister on behalf of the department I head. This wasn’t merely a formality; it is a binding commitment to specific KPIs, transparency, and service delivery benchmarks for 2026. In the new public service, performance is key.
3) Digitalization as a Tool
Leadership from hashtag#FEICOM, hashtag#BUNEC, and hashtag#NASLA presented evidence-based papers which demonstrated that digitalization is no longer just “I.T”. It is now the primary driver of institutional transparency and administrative innovation.
🚀 The Institutional Return on Investment
When public institutions adopt KPI tracking, digital public infrastructure (DPI), and performance-based leadership, the “banal” administrative tasks become transformational. We are moving from a State that simply exists to a State that delivers. hashtag#MINDDEVEL is shifting the narrative from “bureaucratic” to becoming the true engine of local development.
Digitalization = Accountability.
Goal Setting = Strategic Sovereignty.
The 2026 roadmap is clear. The tools are digital. The mindset is pure performance.
Question: Do you agree that we should stop viewing the public and private sectors as opposites and start seeing them as partners in excellence?
